Reaching Geneva

By plane
Direct flights connect the Geneva Airport (GVA) with most of the main european cities, as well as a number of non-european cities.

Public transport after arrival at the airport
Upon arrival at  Geneva Airport, you can get an 80-minute ticket free of charge for a ride to the place of your accommodation. With this ticket you can take busses, trams, and also the train (2d class) from Geneva Airport to Geneva main railway station in the city center. All trains leaving the airport first go to Geneva main station (a 5 minutes ride) before continuing to other destinations in Switzerland. The ticket machine is located in the luggage retrieval hall, next to the customs clearance exits.

By train
Fast trains connect the Swiss cities to Geneva central railway station ("Gare Cornavin"). The train ride from Zürich or Basel takes about 3 hours. Details are available at the Swiss Railways website.
From France, Geneva is connected to Lyon in 2h, Paris in 3h30 and Marseille in 3h30 by ultra rapid trains (TGV). Details are available at the SNCF website.

The Geneva Transport Card
is your free passport to Geneva's transport network. When you stay in a hotel or a youth hostel, you receive free of charge a Geneva Transport Card. This card is valid for the public transport service in the Canton of Geneva. This network, called UNIRESO, includes bus and tram (TPG), train (CFF) and the famous yellow taxi-boats crossing the lake (Mouettes Genevoises).

The official currency is the Swiss Franc. It is often possible to pay with Euros. In this case usually only banknotes are accepted, with change returned in Swiss Francs.

The conference center (CICG) is located in the quartier of Varembé, at about 1 kilometer away from the historic center of Geneva, close to the Palais des Nations (UNO Geneva).
